This course aims to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiology and parasitology in public health. Topics includes infectious and parasitic diseases considered of public health significance in Thailand caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoans and helminths, with emphasis on the structure, epidemiology, microbial virulence factors, clinical presentations of infection, methods for the detection and identification of microorganisms and parasites, guidelines for prevention and treatment, host immune responses against pathogens and immunization, methods of controlling microbial growth, environmental factors influencing disease development, application of indicator microorganisms in public health.
