
Studies of current popular novels, examination of how authors use language to create different effects, investigation of the ways that literary text structure and use language, exploration of tools from linguistics and stylistics to analyze aspects of novel texts: figure of speech, discourse structure, style, pragmatic strategies and varieties of English

British and American fictions that demonstrate major social forces, significant intellectual trends and important literary movements in literature written in English
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
· Explain an overview of historical backgrounds of British and American fiction;
· Analyze and criticize literary texts by relating prominent literary movements to selected short stories;
· Develop discussions and critical responses on British and American fiction in various contexts.
