This course introduces the basic foundations of chemistry necessary for further study in the medical
sciences. Core topics include basic chemical terminology, chemical calculations, properties of atoms and
molecules, including chemical bonding and structure. These core concepts are developed to discuss
gases, properties of solutions, colloids, aqueous equilibria, properties of acids, bases and buffers, redox
chemistry for medical applications and an introduction to functional group organic chemistry.
